Open Letter: Thanks

Dear Friends, Family, Readers, Listeners, Supporters and my fellow content producers on The Light!
And especially Robert Williams, Roz The Butterfly, Mark Tyler, Jerome Benjamin,  Santiago Almodover, Angela Burton, Harve Nichol, Robert Laws, Khalida Hunter,  Ava Lewis, Jackie A. Belton, Carol Waties, Matt Gilliano, Ed and Tanya Dixon and Cheryl Sellers.
I want to say thank you!

On Friday February 23rd, I am being awarded a Atlantic City Home Town Hero Award.

Over the course of 2017, a lot has been accomplished on the air, at live events and in the community.

I would be the biggest dope in the world to assume that these accomplishments came because of my efforts. What we have done and are doing and will do, is because of you army of great people behind me.

This award may have my name on it.

However, it is our award and there are other names that have also contributed...MIGHTILY.

I am asking you to attend and help me celebrate.

As proud as I am to accept this award, I take more pride in recognizing how you all made this and so many great things possible last year and this year as well.

If I forgot to mention you by name? Please forgive me.

4 Cover Songs for Your Valentine's Play List!

We all know what tomorrow is.
For some of you it will be happiness, topped with ice cream, covered in syrup with sex sprinkles.

Then there's the rest of us.....

I just had to get that in.

Anyway.

I wanted to share 4 great slow jam covers to add to your play list.

1. David Ruffin-I MISS YOU originally by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass!

David channels Teddy and shows you that The Bluenotes may be Philly's Temptations.
No matter. I doubt any song would not sound great with David Ruffin's vocals.

2. Patti Labelle-IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME BY NOW-originally by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes

Miss Patti nor this version need an intro. Just trust if you never heard this version? This will make you love the song even more and it is amazing what she brings to this recording.

I found this record digging through a $2 bin at Green Onions in Philly and found a few songs from this LP. This one is my favorite.

2.Sam Cooke-Mona Lisa originally By Nat King Cole

No one had a voice that compares to Nat King Cole. If one were to try...Sam Cooke would have been a good try. Sam had elements of soul however, that Nat rarely brought through in his own music.

So when I came across this cover I was more than delighted.

1. Michael Jackson  Love Is Here But Now You're Gone. Originally by The Supremes

I could do a whole blog and I will on why The Jackson 5 is my favorite cover band.

Though Michael is featured here, they have great covers with Jermaine on lead as well.

I still say Valentine's Day is Hum Bug ...but....I hope you dig this play list.

4 Great TV Shows For Goldberg Fans!

When ABC's The Goldbergs premiered in September 2013 I got HOOKED.
I grew up in the 1980's and went to highschool  not 2 hours from Philly, so The Goldbergs was right in my wheel house.
Like other shows before it...I related in two ways.

Way One-The ups and downs of highschool...managing friends, teachers, after school jobs and activities. The bonus is that it's set in Philly and I remember how important The NBA SIXERS and other cultural references were.

Way Two-I also relate to the family stuff. The show is based on the real life family of Adam Goldberg who was a video nerd that went on to become a Hollywood Success.

To clarify my opening statement. One could say I fell in love with The Goldbergs before the pilot episode aired because I had enjoyed a few great shows about family, school, and nostalgia that came before.

If you enjoy The Goldbergs as much as I do, you have most likely watched every episode of these great shows. If not? Enjoy!

4. That 70's Show

First ran on FOX. That 70's Show reminds me of Cooley High for white people with out the good music. The show starred actors that have continued to working including Ashton Cutcher, Mila Kunis, Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson and Wilmver Valderrama.

This show has a great cast, lots of jokes, even if it feels more a like show about the 70's shot in the 90's.

3. Boy Meets World

This is the only show on the list that does not have a narrator or was set in a time different than when it airs. This show like the others has great writer and acting. Veteran actor William Daniels as Mr. Feeny reminds me of my high school English teacher Mrs. Cash.

Boy Meets World focus' on family and teachers and how they all contribute.

Like all the shows on this list. BMW includes a great ensemble cast!

Why I put BMW on this list?
A. Because it sinks on many levels with the number one show on this list.
B. Boy Meets World has been a success in reruns since it was in it's last 2 seasons on ABC. It continues to find new viewers as well as new generations.

Today a lot of Boy Meets World feels nostalgic because the actors and writers were living in the moment of the 1990s.

2.Everybody Hates Chris

This retelling of Chris Rock's "Wonder Years" is the funniest of all the shows on the list. This show deals the most honestly on issues of poverty and race.

1.The Wonder Years

I think no one that has seen The Wonder Years is surprised at all.

TWY is the show that started the nostalgic take.

With out Ben Savage and The Neal Marlens  Production Company not only would we not have the other 3 shows and The Goldbergs. We may not have had the new classic show This Is Us.
For some reason God gave ABC the good sense to premiere The Wonder Year right after The Super Bowl in 1988.

In one half hour The Wonder Years made viewers laugh and left them is total shock.

The Wonder Years did one thing that all of these shows and The Goldbergs also do...tell stories that are relatable. No matter where, when or how you went to school.

If you haven't seen The Goldbergs add it to your Wednesday Night schedule and if you really want to go back? Definitely check out all of these shows however you stream.

WHO'S ON FIRST?

You know before The Philadelphia Eagles got off the field at The Super Bowl, Andy Reid (now coaching The Kansas Chiefs) was calling every Philly Cell Phone Number He Has.

I also believe before they opened the champagne at least 25 other teams were calling with the same questions?

Are you keeping number one pick CARSON WENTZ?
Are you keeping your Super Bowl MVP NICK FOLES?
Just to ask who's going to be The Back Up?

This is just like that time Bat Man and Robin were going to be eaten alive by The Jokers Giant Clam!
