Thanks 2018

While we have less than 12 hours left in 2018.
So many people are fast forwarding to 2019.
I too am looking forward to a happy new year.
However, let me pause to be grateful for what he have/had in 2018.

5 Things I am thankful for in 2018.

1. The 2018 Holiday Drive.

With the help of friends, families, businesses, artists....our drive helped many this holiday season.
We collected over 100 toys.
We donated to The Food Bank over 200 pounds of food.
We donated to The Covenant House over 200 new pairs of socks/hats/gloves.

We are planing to set up events to help The Covenant House and Food Bank through out 2019.

2. Ray The Curator

Ray The Closer added the title of "Pop-Up Curator" to his resume.
As the year closed my talented friends helped me curate several events that merged parties/art/culture.
That was just the warm up because in 2019 we have several festivals kicking off.
We will be bringing some new and exciting talent to a stage/art gallery maybe even a private home near you. STAY TUNED.

3. TV Got Great Again.

TV this year was as great a year as I ever remembered for broadcast television.
In some cases already great shows got better, like Fear The Walking Dead. Some shows lost a pace like the original Walking Dead franchise. Some shows stayed about where they were like Modern Family.
Then some shows snuck and got wonderful...Black-ish.
Some shows came from no where and took my place as favorites, none more so than The Rel Show on Fox. (Soon I will share my complete top 5 shows.)

4. My health.

It was my beautiful friend Cha Cha that helped me to see. Everyday is a day you have to make a difference and while you are up right you owe it to yourself to enjoy what ou can, help who you can can and accomplish what you can!

5. LEARNING
I am blessed. I have over 500 things to thank God for in 2018.
I will file for now the rest under LEARNING.
There are so many things I understand more and see clearer that I did not see in 2017.
Everything from being seperated from friends and businesses that were holding me back to moving away from things hat made me too comfortable to finally investing in creating digital art.

2018 I hope I got everything I was meant to get from you.
And I am ready for 2019.
To everyone reading this....let's be ready.

LOVE IN THE MORNING December 3rd 2018

WHAT IS LOVE WORTH TO YOU?

Most would agree that you can not put a price tag on "love." Have you however, stopped recently to consider the "value of love" in your life?

I lost my father almost 7 years ago.
I don't like math , but if I did the math on every dollar he spend raising me, then lending me (when I couldn't pay back), then free advice that saved me money and heartache, it would take more dollars than I could count to "pay him back."

Fortunately for those I love....I never "do the math" when it comes to the value I place on relationships and love.

Though my father is gone...it feels strange to say...I still feel loved by him.

The value of our relationship was not measured in numbers or dollars ...but with the the times he sacrificed so that I could have.

The love I felt from my father was evaluated by watching him go out into the cold every morning to work outside on buildings high in the Atlantic city sky. I still remember how small I felt as I watched him leave before I left for school and prayed he would not fall to his death as some others had doing carpentry work in AC.

My father was a giving man.
He never ever gave me the impression that what he was doing was special or that I owed him.

My father would sit me down and tell me stuff I could not begin to understand as a teen, as a twenty or thirty something. However, he had faith in me to grow and develop and I would eventually “get it.”

So there's no price I can place on his telling me to "always have a nice dark suit...that will never go out of style" ...or "you need to listen to some Johnny Mathis." I would not take a Fort Knox room of tax free gold in exchange for the stories my father shared of when my he was my age. I do however, know that these experiences we shared ...the love...is incredibly valuable.

I was lucky because I was able to tell him when he was here and I need not wait until he died to appreciate the love he gave me and to give him love back.

Although every time I meet someone that Raymond Tyler Sr . also touched with his giving spirit... I realize I value those times together more each day.

I am a blessed man because my father is one of many tremendous people I have met on life's journey. I have a wealth of friends and family and some colleagues who make me very very rich.

So...Have you thought this morning about what love is worth to YOU?

Have you looked at the laughs, the trips, the ups, the downs, the sideways, the sacrifices, the straight up gifts, the hugs, the kisses, the times “they told you you weren’t all that”,  the memories you get and give through the process of loving?

Don't count the dollars but consider the value... and I bet your Monday will be pretty special.

Always Make Room For Love,

Raymond.

5 Questions about our 2018 Holiday Drive

I was at an event the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and DJ Swoosh said..."Damn Ray.
You have holiday drive events almost every weekend in December."

I hate to explain myself.
To a degree I just don't think like everyone else, I never did.
I have found out the more I explain the less people relate.
To a degree, you have to trust and like me...or deal with other people. That’s fine.

However, this time I will share some information.

How Did  Darkseed Communications, Ray Tyler, The Light start with The Annual Holiday Drive?

Way back when I was a columnist for The Atlantic City Weekly. I went to the publisher Lew Steiner and explained that I felt a responsibility to the readers and the community that produced me to give back. It was already the week before Thanksgiving. So I proposed that we put out a box in the lobby for donations and I would write about  the drive in my column. Lew did better than that. He added a advertisement and we both pledged to donate $100 each of our own money if we got no toys.

I am still proud of The AC Weekly readers and my radio show of the time The Alternative Soul, Breakfast Club. The Wednesday after the drive was announced I was called to the office to pick up the toys. In Fact that year we gave  toys to everyone that asked for toys, we also got a great donation of hoodies and sweat suits from NBA player Stephon Marbury that we gave to The Covenant House and we were able to give toys to several organizations to help their drive.
The good people of The Shore Mall also were good to us.

Why The Parties?

Why not I'm a festive person. Our first party was at Pistol Pete’s and we also gave away awards to many great people here in the community. We will not be doing the award piece this year.

However we are giving award cash award prizes for art at our December 2nd and 16th events.
Parties and events are a way for people to enjoy the season and help.
Some people just want to drop off  toy or make donation...some people want to be more involved.

Why 3 Events This Year?

As great as our very first year was. It has been increasingly hard to get donations. In most cases...people still want to give. People give to other sources and that’s great too.

Also some of the same people that gave in the past..do not have it now.
So in order to get about one quarter of what we had donated in 3 weeks time (that first year,), now takes about 2 months. I also work hard and actually pester friends for donations and contributions.

Another reason I made the choice to increase the events is because now I produce radio and media in The Philadelphia area. As long as I am alive I refuse to go into any community and make money and build my brand and give nothing back. So now I also try and help people that request from me in Philadelphia, Camden and that area as well.

What Are You Collecting This Year?

Toys
Canned Goods
New Socks, Hats, Gloves
Financial Donations (every year I have to run out and get something I may not have from a request, I come across great deals like $5 coats, the other day someone asked for money for baby formula.)

What Do People or Organizations Have To Do to Request Help?

Ask.
I help as many as I can. I do not buy Playstations or Xboxes.
However, if anyone is bold enough to ask for help?
I am determined to do what I can. What I can’t I try and find resources for.

So if you’d like to help this year?

December 2nd is DJ’s and Artists Against Hunger at Ventnor Coffee

December 9th is The Alternative Soul Holiday Show at

The Labelle Art Gallery in Haddonfield,NJ

December 16th is The Festive Fest at The Bourre in AC.

THE MICROPHONE FIEND...JILL SCOTT

The Raymond Tyler Media Editorial
Number One!
Do I Slap The Mic Outta Your Mouth?

This week I have seen a lot of "big" talk about the Jill Scott video where she "simulates" a sexual act.

Some are cheering her on like she in the 21st Century, Vanessa del Rio (I have no idea who VDR is but I understand she enjoyed "the mic" as well.)

Others are acting like Jill Scott has defiled the sanctity of the world wide web and degraded herself as a woman.

I love Jill Scott ...and I am not going to say much.

Since Jill, started making music and music videos, I have met people that have never met her that projected their experience, lifestyles and now hang ups on to "Jill Scott."

I have met several women that have said "Jill Scott" validates them being mad at other women, baby daddies ,men, or whoever. The Jill Scott I know/knew is a lot of things...smart, honest and yes sensual at times on stage...but never "angry."

My point is some people will always find someone they can project their hang ups on...

Now that being said...YOU. You have every right to be offended...even disappointed with the whole Jill Scott "blessing" the mic video.

Let Uncle Raymond share this however. I don't like black eyed peas (I detest the food...the band I messes with)...I don't go to war with black eyed peas, or the growers or the eaters. I just do not eat black eyed peas and GO ON WITH MY LIFE! You can do that.

YOU CAN TOTALLY....IGNORE SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE WITH OUT HAVING TO CONVINCE EVERY ONE ELSE TO NOT LIKE IT...and guess what...you can totally spend that time indulging what makes you happy and letting the world know about that.

What's Your Opinion? We'd Like To Know!
